{"id":91,"date":"2019-01-14T18:41:35","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T16:41:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brianoflondon.me\/?page_id=91"},"modified":"2019-02-03T12:15:11","modified_gmt":"2019-02-03T10:15:11","slug":"themes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/brianoflondon.me\/themes\/","title":{"rendered":"Repeating Themes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is where I&#8217;ll define topics that I refer to often<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"israel\">Israel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"indigenous\">Indigenous Jews<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to understand the basics of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"who is and who isn\u2019t indigenous (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.israellycool.com\/2014\/01\/09\/israel-palestine-whos-indigenous\/\" target=\"_blank\">who is and who isn\u2019t indigenous<\/a>, Ryan Bellerose\u2019s first explanation at Israellycool is essential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This historical continuity may consist of the continuation, for an extended period reaching into the present of one or more of the following factors:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Occupation of ancestral lands, or at least of part of them<\/li><li>Common ancestry with the original occupants of these lands<\/li><li>Culture in general, or in specific manifestations (such as religion, living under a tribal system, membership of an indigenous community, dress, means of livelihood, lifestyle, etc.)<\/li><li>Language (whether used as the only language, as mother-tongue, as the habitual means of communication at home or in the family, or as the main, preferred, habitual, general or normal language)<\/li><li>Residence in certain parts of the country, or in certain regions of the world<\/li><li>Religion that places importance on spiritual ties to the ancestral lands<\/li><li>Blood quantum \u2013 that is, the amount of blood you carry of a specific people to identify as that people. The concept was developed by colonialists in order to eventually breed out native peoples.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Let us now look quickly at the Jews. How do they fit this definition?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Their lands were occupied, first by the Romans, then by the Arabs in the seventh century.<\/li><li>They share common ancestry with previous occupants as determined by several genetic studies.<\/li><li>Their culture can be traced directly to the Levant, where it developed into what is now known as \u201cJewish culture.\u201d While different Jewish communities have slightly different traditions, they all share the same root culture, and it remains unchanged. They have resurrected their traditional language, and while many still speak Yiddish and Ladino, Hebrew has become the primary language again.<\/li><li>They have spiritual ties to the land, which plays a large role in their traditions as a people.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Settler-Collonialism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019re onboard with understanding why Jews are Indigenous to Israel and Islam isn\u2019t, it\u2019s very easy to understand why Jews are not \u201csettler colonists\u201d in their own lands. The word &#8220;dhimmitude&#8221; as a historical concept, was coined by Bat Ye&#8217;or in 1983 to describe the legal and social conditions of Jews and Christians subjected to Islamic rule. The word &#8220;dhimmitude&#8221; comes from dhimmi, an Arabic word meaning &#8220;protected&#8221;. Dhimmi was the name applied by the Arab-Muslim conquerors to indigenous non-Muslim populations who surrendered by a treaty (dhimma) to Muslim domination. Islamic conquests expanded over vast territories in Africa, Europe and Asia, for over a millennium (638-1683). The Muslim empire incorporated numerous varied peoples which had their own religion, culture, language and civilization. For centuries, these indigenous, pre-Islamic peoples constituted the great majority of the population of the Islamic lands. Although these populations differed, they were ruled by the same type of laws, based on the shari&#8217;a.<\/p><p>This similarity, which includes also regional variations, has created a uniform civilization developed throughout the centuries by all non-Muslim indigenous people, who were vanquished by a&nbsp;<em>jihad<\/em>-war and governed by&nbsp;<em>shari&#8217;a<\/em>&nbsp;law. It is this civilization which is called dhimmitude. It is characterized by the different strategies developed by each&nbsp;<em>dhimmi<\/em>&nbsp;group to survive as non-Muslim entity in their Islamized countries. Dhimmitude is not exclusively concerned with Muslim history and civilization. Rather it investigates the history of those non-Muslim peoples conquered and colonized by&nbsp;<em>jihad<\/em>.<\/p><p>Dhimmitude encompasses the relationship of Muslims and non-Muslims at the theological, social, political and economical levels. It also incorporates the relationship between the numerous ethno-religious dhimmi groups and the type of mentality that they have developed out of their particular historical condition which lasted for centuries, even in some Muslim countries, till today.<\/p><p>Dhimmitude is an entire integrated system, based on Islamic theology. It cannot be judged from the circumstantial position of any one community, at a given time and in a given place.
