It used to be that if we got our toes trodden on we then would have a somewhat terse response that we’re made of more than meets the eye, but that part of our ‘identity’ has now gone.

Will we ever get it back?

Someone wrote recently that a great country needs a great leader.

We have Nigel Farage.

Will his moment come like Churchill’s and Thatcher’s did to put our country back on track?

That remains to be seen, but at the moment we are neither a great country or a great people. We are cringeworthy for what we’ve allowed to happen to us.

We’ll only get our pride back if we learn shame.

And then we need to walk humbly and learn back from the world what we taught it. The world has a far better idea of what it means to be English, to be British, than we do.
